Redruth Town Council throws open its doors for community welcome event

A wide range of local voluntary and community groups and neighbouring councils were invited to come together last Thursday at a welcome event designed to bring the Council even closer to the community it serves. The evening presented an opportunity for people to find out more about the work of the Council teams, to put forward collaboration ideas and to find out how they can apply to the increased grant scheme run by the Council to help the community. The event was held in the Council offices at the Library and Civic Centre in Alma Place.

The new Town Clerk, Charlotte Caldwell commenced in this role in early April, since when she’s been getting to know the staff team and Councillors. She was already a familiar face at the Civic Centre due to her previous role at Cornwall Council as Community Link Officer for Redruth. The event on Thursday was an ideal opportunity to meet at first hand a wide range of community groups and local organisations and invite ideas from the wider community on how the Council can support more groups achieve their objectives for the benefit of the Redruth parish.

Charlotte said: “I feel very lucky to be working with such a dedicated staff and Councillor team and am extremely keen to ensure that we extend our reach to support more community groups and help champion positive social action. I would encourage local groups to come and have a conversation with us.”

Guests included the Camborne Town Mayor, representatives from Redruth Revival CIC who are currently refurbishing The Buttermarket and guests from local sports teams and charity organisations. They were greeted with a drinks reception and display panels highlighting the work of the different departments within the Council as well as information to take away.

Town Mayor Cllr Stephen Barnes said: “It was an honour to introduce our new Town Clerk Charlotte to our community on Thursday. She has really made an impact on the Town Council since she started at the beginning of April and now we are looking forward to the innovations she can lead as she gets out and meets more people in the Redruth community.”

Those who were unable to attend on the night are welcome to get in touch for more information or to arrange a meeting with Charlotte. Please email
