Kresen Kernow

Little Vauxhall, Redruth TR15 1AS

Kresen Kernow, Cornwall’s new archive centre located on the historic Redruth Brewery site in the heart of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, opened in 2019 and was built thanks to £11.7m of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Over 1.5 million items including manuscripts, books, documents and photographs are stored on 14 miles of state-of-the-art shelves which are themselves housed in modern environmentally-controlled archive rooms.

As well as the world’s largest collection of records, Kresen Kernow is also home to the Cornwall Record Office, the Cornish Studies Library and the Cornwall & Scilly Historic Environment Record. It has excellent digital facilities, dynamic volunteering opportunities and a diverse range of events, exhibitions and activities, which means improved access for wider audiences to celebrate and share in Cornwall’s rich and distinct history.
