Enchanting October: Your Ultimate Guide to Events and Adventures in Redruth!
Although autumnal weather has meant we’ve had plenty of wind and rain which might make some of us feel like hibernating, there is still so much to look forward to in Redruth this month! October sees the return of Fun Palaces, which gives everyone a chance to try new skills by participating in free workshops throughout Redruth. Why not join the Library and the Writers Block for a Speakeasy, or unleash your inner artist with an exploding paint workshop?
Many will be looking forward to the October Half term at the end of the month, there are lots of great free activities for children of all ages to enjoy including the popular Spooky Redruth activities. There’s also the Lowenda Festival that provides the opportunity for the whole family to celebrate Cornish Celtic Spirit.

Speakeasy – Fun Palaces

Are you a storyteller, poet, fiction writer, comic or perhaps a musician? Redruth Library and the Writer’s Block want you to take part and experience some of Cornwall’s up-and-coming writing talent. You are welcome to join the audience and not share – have a good listen and discover what else is out there. This Speakeasy event forms part of Redruth Library’s Fun Palaces programme.

Exploding Paint Workshop – Fun Palaces

Be a part of Redruth’s heritage by participating in this free exploding paint workshop! Using poster paints and alka-seltzer to create paint explosions to decorate a banner celebrating Redruth as the heart of Cornish innovation.

Community Conversation with RJ Working

Have a restorative discussion with Cornish climate action charity RJ Working about food, climate, and community. Served alongside these important conversations is a meal that’s completely free of charge.

Trees and Teas Talk
Wednesday 9th October 2024
The Cornwall Garden Society’s (CGS) Autumn Lecture Programme will be launched by Jonathon Jones OBE who is Managing Director, Trading of the historic Tregothnan Estate at Tresillian near Truro.
With 29 miles of tea planted in 25 years, Tregothnan’s thriving plantation has become the largest tea garden in Europe and its award-winning luxury brand – the most British tea in history – can be enjoyed across the globe. Even in China, Jonathon is known as ‘the Teaman’!
Jonathon has also launched an easy-to-use ‘phone app to map Tregothnan’s rare collection of trees and shrubs – Tremap – to map every tree on earth to help amateurs, academics, private gardeners and professionals care for trees and manage green spaces. This global database has already mapped a staggering 15,419,265 trees across the world.

Celebrate Cornish Connections at Kresen Kernow

The ‘Cornish Connections’ exhibition brings together the PK Porthcurno archive and the Kresen Kernow mining collections – both recognised for their worldwide significance in the histories of mining and telecommunications. Usually told in terms of technological advancements, Kresen Kernow have looked instead for archives that change this familiar story and illustrate how these industries were used by the British Empire to its own advantage in southern Africa.
Upstairs in the archive, you will also have an exclusive opportunity to see more original documents relating to our current exhibition, during this special event!
There will be drinks and nibbles (including vegan and gluten free options), along with an introduction to the exhibition at 6.30pm.

Get ready for some spook-tacular fun at Redruth Library! Join us and the Engagement Team from Redruth Town Council for “Spooky” Halloween activities and workshops during the October half-term week. You can look forward to spooky craft workshops with Sam Bradbury, pumpkin carving, and even a silent disco.
All activities are free to attend and open to all ages, under 12’s will need to be accompanied by an adult.
