Teams wanted for the Redruth Pasty Relay Championships

Teams will have the chance to enter the Redruth Pasty Relay Championships as part of the Redruth International Mining & Pasty Festival on Saturday 9th September.

The Engagement Team at Redruth Town Council is encouraging local businesses, groups of friends, families or community groups to form teams to compete for honour of becoming the Redruth Pasty Relay Champions.

This new event will see teams of 10 to 15 people line up on Fore Street and pass a pasty to each other in an attempt to be the fastest team. The course will start by the Welly Dogs at Tatey Court and finish at The Miner statue.

In order to avoid food waste, the pasties that will be used in the relay will be fabric. Winning Teams will be awarded special pasty-themed prizes.

The Redruth International Mining & Pasty Festival is returning in 2023 after an absence of a few years. The event starts on Friday 8th September – Miners’ Day – where past and present miners will be remembered with special storytelling, music and smoking of the mine engine stacks at Wheal Uny.

Saturday 9th September is Pasty Day with the Pasty Relay taking place around 11am. A diaspora food village is planned along with more music, a market and pasty making competitions.

The weekend finishes on Sunday 10th September with the Fun Day in Victoria Park with a dog show, games, assault course, stalls and space hopper racing.

More information on the programme for all 3 days will be coming soon; the Festival Guide will be published on 25th August.

To enter a team into the Pasty Relay Championships, please email Sam White at telling us your team name and how many people make up the team.
