Hellfire Kernow is back for 2023

Golden Tree Productions are thrilled to announce a spectacular celebration of Cornish heritage in Redruth – ‘Hellfire Kernow’ will be held on Bank Holiday Monday, 1st May 2023.

Where you live determines which Hellfire Kryw you’re part of, and which team you might like to support on Monday 1st May. The divisions are based on the medieval keverangow (‘hundreds’) of Cornwall and centred on the crossroads at the bottom of Fore Street, which is where the four colourful crews of Redruth residents will gather for a celebration of Redruth and its patron, Saint Euny on 1st May.

Find your Kryw by using the map below.

There are free creative workshops running at all four ‘Kryw Base’ venues in the run-up to the May Bank Holiday celebrations, anyone is invited to drop-in to help create costumes or make a flag to wave on the day. There’s also a band attached to each Kryw, with a band rehearsal to join in with if you play drums, brass, strings, wind or boxes.

Kryws will gather at ‘Kryw Bases’ from 1pm on Monday 1st May and the Hellfire Kernow event will start with a proclamation at 2pm in the centre of the cross roads, leading to a spectacular procession of the Kryws through the town to Redruth Rugby Club, ready for the Hellfire Hurl at 4pm.

The project has received funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.  The funding was allocated from the Good Growth’s Cultural Events and Talent Programme.
