In volume two of our celebrating small businesses in Redruth, we’ve caught up with the owner John from Home Ground café at the bottom of Fore Street. There’s a great selection of cafes and eateries in Redruth and we’ll feature more of them as the year goes on. If you’re in the area, do pop in and sample some of John’s delights.
Hi John, thanks for chatting with us, we love to sample some of your delights! Can you tell us when did Home Ground begin?
“No problem, we began seven years ago (2015); we are a coffee shop that serves homemade cakes, soups, stews, flatbreads and baguettes. We also sell second-hand books. I live in Redruth and chose to locate my business here because I like the people in the area and being in town.
Our philosophy is that we strive to ensure every customer has a pleasant time and enjoys good food and well-made drinks. I’m lucky that we’ve got a good team who put genuine care into every cup and every plate we make. We have all sorts of customers coming into Home Ground and making sure that anyone can enjoy a similar experience, no matter what their dietary requirements, is a big part of our ethos. We offer separate vegan, gluten free and lacto free menus so we get all types of people having all types of food and drink. This year, I’m planning on having a Pizza night on Friday evenings in the summer. I’ve had the pizza oven for years and think people would enjoy having somewhere else nice to go out for dinner. I’m really excited by the pizzas we’re developing and know we can turn the coffee shop into a really intimate setting, perfect for “date night”.”
“My favourite thing about Redruth is the people. I’ve generally always found the people to be fun, generous, big hearted and with a good sense of humour. Thanks to Redruth for putting up with me all these years :).”
