Autumn Activities in Redruth

We love this time of year when the leaves are a rich orange and days still warm, outdoor activities are still possible but as well as that there’s lots of great indoor things to do with the kids. We’ve put together a short guide of what’s taking place over the half term week in Redruth for all age groups.

We’re really excited to welcome Lowenda Peran to Redruth for the first time. Celebrating Cornish culture and its Celtic connections, featuring hundreds of performers from Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany and the Isle of Man. Expect colourful dance displays, music throughout the town and evening entertainment with something for everyone.

Events include:

  • Dance displays and music on Redruth High Street and in St Rumons Gardens
  • Family activities including a family Ceilidh and crafting sessions throughout the half term week
  • ‘Ceilidh’ traditional dance evenings
  • Youth Concert at Redruth School Thursday
  • Folk music sessions and entertainment at St Rumons Social Club
  • Gigs at The Drapery including an evening of music and food from Brittany and a ‘Very Cornish Halloween’ night
  • Dalla ‘A Celebration of Cornish Celtic Music’ – Concert at St Andrew’s Church
  • Angeline Morrison ‘The Sorrow Songs: Folk Songs of Black British Experience’ – Concert at The Drapery

Kresen Kernow

At the fascinating Archive centre -Kresen Kernow there’s a brilliant exhibition and some free half term activities taking place. Kresen Kernow is open Tuesday-Thursday, Saturday, 9.30-4.00

Whilst you’re there, be sure to see the ‘Wrecks and Rescues’ exhibition and over the October half term, there’s drop-in for free family activities. There will be colouring, a special shipwreck inspired trail and the Lowender Peran team will be holding story-telling and activity sessions.

On Saturday 29th October at 1.30pm, there is Hevva a traditional Cornish dance and music group performing a short dance performance.

October is Black History Month and Kresen Kernow hosts a pop-up exhibition displaying a collection of Afrofuturism artwork by Cornish artist Kelly Thorne, uncovering untold stories of Black people in Cornwall over the last 400 years.

Keep an eye on the What’s On page kresenkernow.org/events, or on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @kresenkernow to keep up to date.
